125 fashion forward ladies entered the South Australian final of the Myer Fashions on the Field National Competition on Adelaide Casino Adelaide Cup Day at Scott Park Morphettville on Monday 8 March.

Laura Bassett of Toorak, Victoria (formerly from South Australia), was the stand out winner, receiving four times the votes of her next closest rival.

She wore a short full silk skirt in white, screen printed with a black race horse motif and a white silk jacket with black ruffle detail. The black and white ensemble, which was designed by Laura and a designer girlfriend Nancy Katene, was finished off with a large Kerry Hayes oval cinemae hat in black with white flower detail, black gloves and peep toe shoes.

Having won the state title of the nation’s pre-eminent raceday fashion competition, Laura also claimed a nine day trip of a lifetime for two to the 2010 Melbourne Cup Carnival to compete in the National Final on Crown Oaks Day, valued at over $10 000.

Laura and a friend will receive full VIP treatment, luxury accommodation and transfers and be entertained in the Myer Marquee in Flemington’s famous Birdcage enclosure on Emirates Melbourne Cup Day and Crown Oaks Day. They will also receive invitations to all the Victoria Racing Club’s exclusive events giving them the ultimate Melbourne Cup Carnival experience.

Aleksandra Spasojevic was the first runner up, wearing a torquoise Cue dress with a turquoise and coffee coloured hat by Amanda of Adelaide Hatters

Second runner up, Louise Panas wore a coffee and cream coloured satin and lace top and skirt by Rose and Ruby with a hat by Amanda of Adelaide Hatters

The Rebecca Twigley Award went to Kyla Ellis for her on-trend black ankle boots, which were combined with an apricot dress

The judging panel featured a range of expert fashionistas and personalities, including Myer Racing Ambassador, Rebecca Twigley; Spencer & Rutherford – Creative Director, Kim Michaelides; Adelaide Advertiser – Fashion Editor, Anna Vlach; Sunday Mail – Fashion and Beauty Editor, Mirella Romano; SAJC – Deputy Vice Chairman, Sharon Forrester-Jones; MYER Adelaide City – Store Manager, Edward Burcham; Kathy Rukavina from the Victoria Racing Club; and last year’s South Australian winner, Olivia Nunn.
